Aprille Russell
Aprille Russell began her twenty-five-year direct marketing career in the for-profit world of publishing. More than fifteen years ago, she transferred these promotional skills to the nonprofit fundraising field.
​
Her development and communications history encompasses a range of disciplines including grantwriting, individual giving direct marketing, frontline gift officer solicitations, copywriting, special events, prospect research, analysis, stewardship and board management.
​
A Brooklyn native who grew up in Washington, DC, Aprille has returned happily to Brooklyn.
​
An experienced nonprofit professional with a deep respect for philanthropy, Aprille believes that when a donor makes a gift, it demonstrates a trust in your organization that should be honored organization-wide. That respect guides her commitment to best practices in development, operations, communications and strategic planning. She is committed to strategic planning across departments to ensure programs, communications and fundraising echo one another and reflect shared organization priorities.

Aprille has worked as a consultant or an employee in supportive housing for homeless persons, early childhood education, pulmonary research, academia, civil rights, conservation, and women’s rights. The organizations include grassroots nonprofits and large, established institutions. Although the settings varied, what drew her to an organization remained constant: the nonprofit’s dedication to serving underserved communities through compassionate, comprehensive and effective strategies.

Her extensive writing and editing background includes direct marketing appeals, brochures, newsletters, annual reports, grant proposals, web content, social media, and newspaper opinion pieces. She specializes in branding, promotional copy, and storytelling.
